From the Principal's Desk

"At Alcott, we work hard and are kind to people." This simple belief guides everything we do and reflects the culture we strive to build every day.

I am Burdena Alesia Rutter Johnson, proud principal of Alcott Elementary School. Since joining Pontiac School District in 2000, I have had the privilege of serving our students and families in a variety of roles, including middle and high school social studies teacher, coordinator of the Teen Moms Program, high school assistant principal, high school principal, and now elementary principal.

I am a proud graduate of Wilberforce University, the nation's oldest historically Black college and university, and I earned two advanced degrees from Oakland University. Throughout my career, I have also served as a curriculum lead teacher, department chair, MEAP test coordinator, committee chairperson, and vice president of the Pontiac Association of School Principals.

My passion has always been the same: ensuring every Pontiac student receives the high-quality education they deserve. At Alcott, we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment where every child is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential—academically, socially, and emotionally.

I am honored to serve the Alcott community and look forward to partnering with our students, families, and staff as we continue building a school where every child can thrive.
